Wilson Integrated Psychiatry LLC

Sarina Wilson, psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner

About

My name is Sarina Wilson, and I started Wilson Integrated Psychiatry LLC in 2023.  I am a psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner with over 22 years of healthcare experience and over 13 years as a nurse practitioner.  My first specialty was acute care/ hospital medicine, before moving into psychiatry.  There I worked with acute illness and exacerbation of chronic illness.  I noticed that, too often, mental health complaints and their impact on health and wellness were overlooked.  People were unable to adequately manage their chronic health conditions because they were too depressed, anxious, or otherwise struggling with psychological distress.  This seemed to overshadow everything else.  While not often the root cause of their physiologic complaints, mental health determined how they responded to treatments, their compliance with therapies, and could make symptoms of illness much worse.

FAQ

Continued

I created my clinic so that I could use my knowledge of acute and chronic illness, combined with psychiatric care, to reintegrate mental and physical wellness.  I do not try to replace a person’s primary care provider, rather I work with primary care to develop a mind and body approach that best fits a unique individual’s needs.  My experience in hospital medicine gave me a more in-depth understanding of some of my specialties, including dementia with agitation, treatment resistant depression with suicidal ideation, depression/anxiety with a major medical diagnosis, and addiction/ withdrawal.  In addition, my experiences shape my ability to treat diverse populations.  I desire to to help people to navigate the path to emotional peace and wellness with empathy and care.

What is psychiatry?

Psychiatry is the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness as a branch of medicine and most often involves the use of medications. We believe that psychiatry must encompass mental health and illness as a part of whole-body health and illness.  Your mental health is intricately connected to how you manage chronic conditions and take care of your body.  For example, it is more difficult to manage your diabetes if you are also depressed.  We strive to reconnect that disconnect between the mind and body.
